Residents in Pope County won’t have to travel as far for certain basic services anymore.
The Southern 7 Health Department hosted a ribbing cutting Tuesday for its new Public Health Center in Golconda.
Officials say it brings opportunities for future expansion of clinic services without increasing costs to residents.
Community Outreach Coordinator Shawnna Rhine says this will make it easier for Pope County residents to get the help they need.
"If they’re wanting WIC services or Family Case Management services, they have to travel into Hardin County, Johnson County, even into Massac County. So, being able to provide these services right there in the county is gonna save folks a lot of time when it comes to getting those particular services, and a little more ease of access in getting that."
Rhine says it's been more than 10 years since Southern 7 has been able to provide WIC and FCM programs in Pope County due to previous state budget cuts.
